Form 1095-A: What It Is, When It Arrives and What to Do If It Is Wrong (2026-2027)

Short answer: Yes, you get one with a Marketplace plan. Wait for a correct copy.

Full answer: Yes. If anyone in your household had a Marketplace plan other than a Catastrophic plan in 2026, the Marketplace issues Form 1095-A for that coverage. It reports your monthly premiums and advance credit payments, and you use it to complete Form 8962 when you file in 2027. Wait for an accurate form before filing. If it is wrong, call the Marketplace at 1-800-318-2596 for a corrected one.

Form 1095-A, the Health Insurance Marketplace Statement, is the tax form that proves you had Marketplace coverage in 2026 and shows what the government paid toward it. Marketplace enrollees receive it each winter, and the figures on it feed straight into Form 8962, the form that settles your 2026 premium tax credit when you file your return in 2027. Because a wrong number can change your refund or your tax bill, the form deserves a careful read before you file.

This page covers 2026 coverage, the tax year you file in 2027. The Marketplace sends the form, not the IRS, so corrections also come from the Marketplace. Sources are HealthCare.gov and the IRS, checked October 27, 2026. Open enrollment for 2027 coverage begins November 1, 2026, so the form lands just as many households compare plans for the next year.

Direct answer: do I get Form 1095-A for 2026 coverage?

Yes.

What Form 1095-A shows (tax year 2026)

Form 1095-A has three parts that matter for your 2026 return. Part I identifies the recipient, who is the person named at enrollment as the tax filer. Part II lists the covered people and the start and end dates of their Marketplace plan. Part III is a month by month table with the three figures Form 8962 needs: Column A, Column B and Column C. Each is described in the list below, and each should match what you know about your 2026 coverage.

  • Column A, monthly enrollment premium: the premium for your plan for 2026, counting only the part that pays for essential health benefits
  • Column B, second lowest cost Silver plan (SLCSP) premium: the benchmark premium used to calculate your credit for 2026
  • Column C, advance payment of the premium tax credit: the amount paid to your insurer on your behalf each month in 2026

When Form 1095-A arrives in 2027 and where to find it

Marketplaces are required to furnish Form 1095-A by January 31 after the coverage year, so 2026 forms are due around January 31, 2027 (a Sunday, so the practical deadline is Monday, February 1), according to the IRS Instructions for Form 1095-A. HealthCare.gov tells enrollees to expect a mailed copy by mid-February and says a copy may be available in your online account as early as mid-January. Mail can be slow, so the online copy is usually the fastest route.

To download it, log in to your HealthCare.gov account, open the application for the coverage year you are filing for (the 2026 application, not the 2027 one), choose Tax forms from the menu, then download the PDF. If you enrolled through a state-based Marketplace such as Covered California or MNsure, the form comes from that state Marketplace and you find it in that account. You do not mail the form with your return, but keep a copy, because the IRS can ask for it later.

Who gets Form 1095-A and who does not

Anyone in a household that had a Marketplace plan in 2026, other than a Catastrophic plan, gets Form 1095-A. The form goes to the tax filer named at enrollment, and one form can cover several family members on the same policy. If you changed plans during the year or had two policies, you may get more than one form, and you add them up on Form 8962. This page is written for adults under 65 buying their own ACA-compliant coverage.

Coverage outside the Marketplace does not produce this form. Original Medicare (Part A and Part B), Medicare Advantage, Part D drug plans and Medigap policies are not Marketplace plans, and Medicaid and employer plans report differently. Medicare Part A or Part B coverage also generally ends your eligibility for the premium tax credit for those months, so tell the Marketplace when Medicare starts. If you got a 1095-A but never had Marketplace coverage, contact the Marketplace Call Center.

How to check your Form 1095-A before you file

Compare the form with your own records for 2026 coverage, one part at a time. Start with the names and Social Security numbers, then the coverage start and end dates, then the Part III columns. A premium that differs from your plan's full premium is not always an error. HealthCare.gov explains that Column A can be lower because it counts only essential health benefits, because coverage started or ended mid-month, or because a child's stand-alone dental premium was added.

  • Every person who had the plan in 2026 is listed, with the right coverage months
  • Column A shows a premium for each month someone was covered
  • Column B is not 0 and not blank for any month someone had the Marketplace plan
  • Column C matches the advance credit you remember being applied to your 2026 premiums
  • You reported every household change (a birth, move, marriage, divorce or new dependent) to the Marketplace, since unreported changes can cause a wrong Column B

What to do if your Form 1095-A is wrong

What you do depends on which part is wrong, according to HealthCare.gov. If the coverage dates, covered people or premiums in Column A or Column C are wrong, call the Marketplace Call Center at 1-800-318-2596 (TTY 1-855-889-4325). The Marketplace fixes the record and issues a form marked Corrected. If your name, address, date of birth or Social Security number is wrong, you do not need a corrected form. Enter the correct information on the forms you send the IRS.

If Column B is wrong, blank or 0, use the HealthCare.gov tax tool at healthcare.gov/tax-tool/ to find the correct second lowest cost Silver plan premium and use that figure on Form 8962. Use a Corrected form in place of any earlier version, and never use a form marked Voided. If you already filed with an earlier version and the corrected figures differ from what you used on Form 8962, you may need to file an amended return.

How to get your form and file: next steps for the 2026 tax year

The steps below cover the 2026 tax year, filed in 2027. The Marketplace, not the IRS, issues and corrects Form 1095-A. If you cannot find the form online by February 2027, contact the Call Center before you file, because HealthCare.gov says not to file until you have an accurate Form 1095-A. The IRS adds that you should file as soon as you have all the documents you need.

  • Log in to HealthCare.gov (or your state Marketplace) in January 2027 and open your 2026 application
  • Open Tax forms and download Form 1095-A; choose a Corrected version if one is listed
  • Check Parts I to III against your records, then call 1-800-318-2596 about any error
  • Copy Columns A, B and C onto Form 8962 and file it with your Form 1040

Why accuracy matters more for tax year 2026: no repayment cap

Column C of Form 1095-A shows the advance credit paid for you in 2026, and Form 8962 compares it with the credit you actually qualify for based on your final 2026 income. For tax year 2026, filed in 2027, there is no repayment cap at any income. If the advance credit paid was more than the credit you qualify for, you repay the full difference, whether your final income is under or over 400% of the federal poverty level, per Public Law 119-21 section 71305 and the IRS premium tax credit Q&A. The repayment caps applied only to tax years before 2026.

A wrong Column C or Column B can therefore cost real money in 2027. For comparison, the 2026 coverage income range for the credit is 100% to 400% of the 2025 poverty guidelines ($15,650 to $62,600 for one person), and for 2027 coverage, which you can pick starting November 1, 2026, it is based on the 2026 guidelines ($15,960 to $63,840 for one person). Filing Form 8962 is also required if you received advance credit, and skipping it can affect advance credit eligibility in later years.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Form 1095-A?

Form 1095-A is the Health Insurance Marketplace Statement. A Marketplace sends it to the tax filer when anyone in the household had a Marketplace plan in 2026. It lists who was covered, the monthly premiums, the second lowest cost Silver plan premium and any advance premium tax credit paid. You use those figures to complete Form 8962 with your 2026 tax return, filed in 2027.

When will I get my Form 1095-A?

Marketplaces must furnish Form 1095-A by January 31 after the coverage year, so around January 31, 2027 for 2026 coverage (a Sunday, so effectively Monday, February 1), per the IRS Form 1095-A instructions. HealthCare.gov says a mailed copy should arrive by mid-February and an online copy may be available as early as mid-January. Check your Marketplace account under Tax forms first, since the online copy is often faster than mail.

Where is my 1095-A if I did not get it?

Log in to your HealthCare.gov account, select your 2026 application, choose Tax forms and download the PDF. If you used a state-based Marketplace, log in there instead. If you cannot reach your account or find the application, call the Marketplace Call Center at 1-800-318-2596 (TTY 1-855-889-4325). The IRS does not issue this form, so it cannot send you a copy.

Do I need Form 1095-A to file my taxes?

If you had a Marketplace plan with advance premium tax credit, yes, because you need its figures for Form 8962. HealthCare.gov says not to file until you have an accurate Form 1095-A. You do not mail the form with your return, but keep a copy. If you had a Marketplace plan with no advance credit and do not claim the credit, you generally do not need Form 8962.

What is a corrected 1095-A?

A corrected Form 1095-A is a replacement issued by the Marketplace after it fixes an error, with the Corrected box checked at the top. Use it instead of any earlier version. A form marked Voided should not be used to file. If you already filed with an earlier version and the corrected figures differ from what you put on Form 8962, you may need to file an amended return.

What if my name or Social Security number is wrong on Form 1095-A?

HealthCare.gov says you do not need a corrected form for wrong personal information such as your name, address, date of birth or Social Security number. Enter the correct information on the forms you send the IRS instead. Errors in coverage dates, covered people or the premium and advance credit amounts are different: call the Marketplace Call Center at 1-800-318-2596 for a corrected form.

What if Column B on my 1095-A is blank or 0?

Column B is the second lowest cost Silver plan premium, and it should not be 0 or blank for any month someone had the Marketplace plan. This often happens when household changes were not reported. Use the HealthCare.gov tax tool at healthcare.gov/tax-tool/ to find the correct premium and use it on Form 8962, or call 1-800-318-2596.

Do I get Form 1095-A if I have Medicare or Medicaid?

No. Form 1095-A comes only from the Marketplace. Original Medicare, Medicare Advantage, Medicaid, CHIP and employer plans do not produce it. If you had a Marketplace plan for part of 2026 before moving to Medicare or Medicaid, you get a 1095-A covering those Marketplace months, and you may owe or be owed credit for them.
